How the Centre is organised

Mount Royal Mediation Centre is incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee in Nigeria—a non-profit structure devoted to widening access to high-quality mediation and training.

Purpose & safeguards

Funds stay inside the mission: facilitation, mentorship, academy-style learning, and public education. There is no share capital returned to promoters; surplus income is recycled into programmes that keep mediation affordable and widely understood across sectors.

Non-Profit Character

Mount Royal Mediation Centre does not have share capital and does not distribute profits to its members. Any surplus or income generated is reinvested solely towards the advancement of its objects, including:

  • Provision of mediation and ADR services
  • Capacity building and training
  • Storytelling, convenings, and outreach that normalise mediation

Service Delivery Framework

The Centre will deliver mediation services through four primary channels:

1
Direct Intake

Parties may voluntarily submit disputes for mediation through the Centre’s intake system.

2
Referrals from judicial ADR desks

Parties arrive here when mediators partner with judiciary-led ADR channels to widen peaceful exits.

3
Government agency referrals

Partnerships with ministries, departments, and agencies to mediate disputes arising within administrative and regulatory contexts.

4
Professional bodies referral

Partnership with the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, and other professional bodies to mediate disputes arising in the course of professional services.

Engagement

Community engagement

Recognizing the need to build awareness and trust in mediation, the Centre will actively promote ADR through:

  • Strategic use of social media platforms and targeted advertising campaigns
  • Free training sessions and webinars for chambers of commerce, professional guilds, estate communities, NGOs, regulators, and frontline teams who touch conflict daily

These initiatives are intended to demystify mediation, improve dispute resolution literacy, and encourage early adoption of non-adversarial processes.

Capacity Building and Training

Mount Royal Mediation Centre will provide professional mediation training through strategic collaboration with established institutions such as the International Mediation Centre. Training programs will focus on:

  • Core mediation skills and ethics
  • Sector-specific dispute resolution (family, workplace, commercial, construction, public sector, etc.)
  • Continuous professional development for accredited neutrals
Impact

Rationale and Strategic Importance

Nigeria’s dispute queues remind us daily that positional battles exhaust people, payrolls, and patience. Mediation restores oxygen: participants stay in charge, narratives stay private, and durable terms replace endless waiting.

Mount Royal leans into that momentum by:

  • Offering disciplined facilitation that is quicker and less exhausting than trench warfare between sides
  • Opening doors so more citizens can exit conflict with dignity
  • Supporting institutions that appreciate early, consent-based exits
  • Modeling transparency, neutrality, and co-designed processes

Individuals and organisations choose mediation when someone shows them exactly how structured dialogue works—so we pair live sessions with education, mentorship, and open conversations the way conveners like{' '} PACT India champion the craft globally.

Pro Bono Mediation Service

Mount Royal Mediation Centre widens who can walk into a mediation room by providing pro bono mediation services to deserving individuals and communities who may be unable to afford formal dispute resolution processes and who have demonstrated their inability to afford mediators’ fees. This initiative reflects the Centre’s dedication to fairness, inclusion, and the peaceful resolution of disputes across all segments of society.

Conclusion

Mount Royal Mediation Centre aims to become a leading ADR institution in Nigeria by delivering high-quality mediation services, promoting awareness, and building capacity across sectors. Through these efforts, the Centre will contribute meaningfully to a more efficient, trusted, and accessible dispute resolution landscape.
